Typing Fingers & Keyboard Positions

Learning to type the keyboard symbols can be fairly tricky because the positions of ech symbols can vary depending on the keyboards you use. Some symbols may exist in the UK keyboard but not in others, or even sits in a different place. As such, the symbol lessons are presented as a practise only exercise.

Depending on the keyboard you use and learn from, you will have to coordinate the typing positions to your needs.

In this exercise, we will deal with symbols that will generally exist on your keyboard, namely: { } [ ] ; : ' " < > ?.

The fingers used are shown below (with the use of the SHIFT key for the top symbols):

< > [ ] { } ' ; : ? "
R3 R4 R5 *R5 or L4

* The double quotes (") positions can vary depending on keyboard used.

Start with your fingers on the Home Row (Row 3) with your middle finger over number 5.

As a guide to where you are currently are, always return to the Row 3 when you are not typing.

If you need help with the finger's chart, please review the First Lesson.
