Typing Fingers & Keyboard Positions

Start with your fingers on the Home Row (Row 3) with your index fingers over F & J.

In this lesson, we are going to deal with the top row - the Number Row. It requires you to really reach up at the keys and can be quite awkward at times if not practiced enough. For many people, the numbers keys are not used as often, and most will just glance back down at their keyboards for help.

As a guide to where you are currently are, always return to the Home Row & Keys F & J when you are not typing. For the number row, this tip is even more crucial as you have to reach further up. It is easy to lose your positions if you do not have some awareness of where your F & J keys are. To help, when you reach up to type the numbers, always have one of the 'non' typing fingers touching the keys that it is resting on, so you can return all the fingers to the Home Row quicker.
